KK
Klub Camping Weekend Not Rained Off - shock report
he
first weekend of June 2005 saw 14 kids from the KK Klub
descend on River Dart Adventures near Ashburton, Devon.
Under the watchful (and occasionally bleary) eyes of five
adults, they had a great time together swimming, climbing,
racing around, getting stuffed on BBQs, yabbering away in
their tents until 2 o'clock Saturday morning, plummeting
along on zipwires, hanging on like grim death to the monkey
net and, er, squirrel-hunting. And loads of other stuff.

OK,
the sun didn't shine all the time...
|
It did rain, but not
as much as last year; most of the time the weather was
OK and sometimes it was really sunny! There were spiritual
discussions in the evenings (with the kids asking questions
including "How do you know when God's talking to you?";
"Does He speak in a man's voice or a woman's voice?";
"Is God male or female?"), with church under a
huge tree on Sunday morning.
The only really unpleasant note was a drunken family argument
that blew up quite close to our pitch on the Saturday night.
Police were called, security guards were on standby and
although there was little risk of physical danger, it was
very upsetting to listen to. However, even this incident
had a positive side as it drew all the kids closer together,
and gave a clear illustration of (i) the dangers of alcohol
abuse, and (ii) the hurt and pain the devil likes to cause
whenever he has the chance.
Even Ken (the youth group leader, who generally has to
be forced onto a camping weekend at gunpoint) was willing
to concede that the weekend "went really well"
and that he "wouldn't mind doing it again". So
overall, a great time was had by all and the kids are asking
when the next one's going to be! Watch this space!

Many thanks to Alei and Gary,
and Andrew and Carole, for making sure the tents were
set up for the kids (and Ken) when they arrived, and
for letting us use their camping gear. Also thanks
to Alison, Mark, Derek and Alei's brother for lending
us valuable equipment for the weekend. And thanks
to everyone who prayed for a fun, safe weekend. THANK
YOU!!!
