Situated
on the Western edge of Dartmoor in Devon, England, Tavistock
is a beautiful, ancient market town with unique character.
Thriving and growing, Tavistock is a central town for the
farming community in the area offering much in the way of
interesting places to visit, local amenities, shopping and
atmosphere.
The
earliest proof of Tavistock being in existence dates around
680AD but there have probably been settlements here for around
4,000 years! Tavistock grew to prominence when a huge Abbey
was built by a local Earl. Later it became a stannary town
(the term being derived from the Latin name for tin) and its
mining industry made it a wealthy town.
Today
it has much to commend it - from historic buildings a thousand
years old to a leisure pool with rides and flumes. From a
working tin mine museum and ancient pannier market to fashion
shops and a yearly festival called Goosey Fair which sees
the town transformed into a huge fairground and market.
So,
why are Kings advertising and promoting Tavistock? Well, we
love this town and we feel very much part of it! We also feel
God has plans for this town and the surrounding area of Dartmoor.
It has been said that Tavistock will be a centre for a revival
that God will bring and that He will draw the people of the
town to Himself. Come and see for yourself!
