(Re)united in the States!

In Feb 2005, Colin & Joy Bond spent four weeks travelling in the USA, meeting friends old and new in LA, Sacramento, Seattle and Phoenix as they raised support for GLAM, the mission arm of Tavistock Community Church. This is their 'Thank You!' letter to everyone who prayed for them while they were away.

Pastors Colin & Joy Bond

To all you faithful praying brothers and sisters, thank you so much! You’ll never know this side of heaven what power you have unleashed!

Friends from LA
Our friends Mark and Rhoda from LA.

As usual, this trip turned out a surprise, the Lord always has something new and unexpected in store. We arrived in Los Angeles, excited to meet up with old friends, Mark and Rhoda, Evie and Sheila, Kathy and others but soon we were meeting new friends God had in His plan for us. Mark introduced us to his friend who was so eager to help with warehouse accommodation and aroused our interest in helping to supply a hospital in Haiti. He also introduced us to large churches in LA. We need to follow this through for they may like to help GLAM minister to the Third World.

Then news began arriving from Uganda that there were troubles with the plans to establish a base for the mission work there. Chat, pray, trust it to the Lord and the attorney! We shared a few minutes at a couple of services at Evie’s church, Harbour Trinity, LA. and encouraged them to support Pastor Ric on the next visit to Africa and to help Evie with her mission. I was not moved much to present GLAM. Beverley Sattlee, from Saddleback Church, interested us in 'Megavoice' recorded lessons and sermons and may be able to help Evie with Outreach To Africa.

Sacramento friends

Time just flew by and we found our selves at Sacramento with Rob and Kimberly. Two and a half hours flew by like minutes as we shared with their interns at Rock of Roseville Church. What a privilege to share with a couple of dozen young people and their pastor Marco, just returned from Uganda. Next day I shared at the Roseville House of Prayer. This is linked to the Kansas HOP with 24/7 prayer. It was so encouraging to receive such an offering from so few! Rob gave some original ideas for the base at Fort Portal in Uganda. Later Pastor Francis and Pastor Marco took us to lunch at the 'Claimjumpers'(!) and showed friendly interest in linking up with the work. Kimberly, Rob and many others want to help and to pray.

Meal in Seattle
A warm welcome from Seattle (above) and Phoenix (below)
Friends from Phoenix

Seattle was another surprise for we expected a quiet weekend since Joe and Dani had a conference weekend. However! - Pastor Roland invited us and we renewed old friendships and were much blessed by their generosity. Darryl Stott was leading the conference at ‘River Glory’. We shall see him again (in the UK I hope)!

Phoenix gave us a warm welcome at the Swartzentruber clan territory. We led Opal astray to the movies to see "Hotel Rwanda" - a must if you ever get the chance to visit! Sunday brought an invitation to present our work in Africa but after a few minutes Old Jim, a popular member, suffered a heart attack so our forty-five minutes became fifteen. Yet the folk were so moved and interested they donated over $500 before being asked.

We picked up a story on the way home. A man sat by a lady reading the Bible on the plane. The following conversation takes place:
Man: "What are you reading?"
Lady: "My Bible."
M:
"You don’t believe all that do you?"
L: "Yes!"
M: "What, Noah and all that?"
L: "Yes."
M: "How do you know he really did all that stuff?"
L: "I don’t know, but when I get to heaven, I’ll ask him."
M: "What if he's not there?"
L: "Then you can ask him!"

Old friendships were strengthened, new ones forged and some very important ones networked. Watch this space! More later! Thank you for your friendship, interest and support. You make these things possible. The Lord will reward you.

We love you,

Colin and Joy
