Leaders' conference |
We
spent our last two days in Africa with about twenty-five
leaders of John Bosco's church in Soweto. David's teaching
focussed on the church as the body of Christ (Col 1.18,
Rom 12), and as the house of God (1 Pet 2).

We
also ran a lengthy session on biblical responses to difficult
situations in the church. The situations included circumstances
that the leaders were struggling with in real life - church
members who only attended meetings when they wanted something,
for example (and got stroppy when their problem coudn't
be resolved immediately), or the difficulties of encouraging
people to keep supporting the ministry financially - a significant
issue in an area as poor as Soweto.
Many
of the leaders showed a great deal of wisdom and maturity
in their responses (at one point David said he didn't need
to carry on teaching as they seemed to know the answers
already). As with the pastors' conference in Tanzania, we
were impressed and humbled by the leaders' willingness to
learn, and their joyous desire to praise and worship God.
