Social issues - Disability
Jared (centre, in the orange shirt) with friends and family

The photo on the right shows Jared. Some years ago, he fell into a fire when drunk and lost his left hand, as well as permanently scarring his face.

The future looked bleak, but after attending a local church, Jared asked Jesus to rule in his life and turned his life around completely.

No-one is allowed to employ Jared because of his disability. He doesn't receive any disability allowance either – instead, the government has given him some land for him to use to provide for himself. At the moment he lives on the land in a corrugated tin shack (see below).

He wants to build a small apartment block, using a couple of rooms for the church and renting the other ones out to provide an income. He has to start building soon or the government will take some of the land away and give it to someone else.
