Joy preaching in full wig mode!
To Kenya
with love

The phone rings. "Joy are you going to Kenya?" my friend on the other end asks me. "Yes," I reply, "On Monday."

"Well, you’re not. All flights to Kenya are cancelled because of terrorist threats, so you won’t be going", my friend told me.

I couldn’t understand this as I believed that God very clearly told me that He wanted me to go to Kenya with Colin. We contacted our travel agent who informed us that all British airline flights to Kenya had been cancelled. However, we had booked our tickets with Kenya Airways, so our flights were alright. Thank you Lord!

Welcome

With great anticipation and excitement we flew to Nairobi. We received a warm African welcome at the airport, several people were there to greet us and take us to our hotel, and I tried to remember the names of our new friends (not very easy).

After a short rest at the pastor’s home we went to the open air crusade in the slum area of Soweto where about three or four thousand people were waiting for us. Then our eyes caught sight of the posters on walls, windows, posts, even cars! These posters had our photos on them advertising the crusade meetings and also the conference the following week. It felt a bit like having our faces on a ’Wanted’ poster ’Have you seen this couple? Reward offered’!

Reaching out for the gift of new life in Christ

But we had the reward - the reward of seeing many people pushing to the front of the crowd because they wanted to have a close relationship with the Lord Jesus, for Him to rule their lives, to be healed, to be set free.

We were kept very busy whilst we were in Kenya and made some lovely friends. I send a very big thank you to Bishop John Bosco and his lovely wife Rachel.

You shouldn’t go to Africa and expect to sit back and watch what’s going on, everyone is expected to preach and/or sing. The people there are so eager to hear what we have to say and to hear what God says through us. It is a real privilege to be able to go and minister in this way.

Danger

The biggest danger we had there was on the roads. Before the locals started the car engine they prayed that God would take us to our destination safely and when we arrived they would pray again and thank Him for His protection. Now we know why! The police offered to come in our car at night to escort us to our hotel after the services because, one of them said, "We are so pleased and privileged that you have come to bring God’s word to our people."

There is much more I could say but these are just a few glimpses of a very eventful and enjoyable time in Kenya. Not only did I see God touching other people’s lives while we were there but I know He touched my life as well. We are never too old to learn!
