TCC
gets a GLAM makeover!
Derek Perry reports on something even better than a visit
from Alan Titchmarsh...
ORRY
FOLKS - it's not what you might be thinking. We haven't had
a visit from Ground Force or the Changing Room team (though some
of us could do with one). A few weeks ago some of the team here
at Tavistock Community Church (TCC), along with pastor
Colin Bond, got together and threw a few ideas at each other on
how to raise more publicity and funds for our work in Central
Africa. And after much thought and laughter (plus several headache
pills), the Great Lakes (Africa) Missions project was born - GLAM
for short!

GLAM is one of two new fund-raising projects for the coming year.
I know many of you have been following the work which God has
called us to do alongside The Family of God churches in Rwanda.
What you may not know is that it is expanding into more and more
countries. We are now committed to help take medical and educational
equipment and care to many thousands of people spread over seven
countries in Central Africa. Of course, along with this commitment
comes much more work, and the need to raise more money to send
out not just the supplies but also people - to help with the distribution
and setting up of the dispensaries, schools and small businesses.
We're a small church, and we feel that God has blessed us and
still is blessing us greatly in this project, and we would like
to share these blessings with you. Would you like the chance to
support this work by becoming one of our growing team of GLAM
leaders? We are looking for people who can give time not just
to collecting money, but to prayer and raising publicity too.
In return for your commitment we will supply you with publicity
material / prayer sheets / collection tins and regular newsletters.
We would also be happy to make a presentation to your church /
fellowship / youth club or home; or if you held a coffee morning
or sponsored event, we would be only too willing to come along
with our new exhibition. Which brings me to the second new idea
- the GLAM / TCC roadshow!

Derek's large display!
|
In the past when we have been invited to churches to share about
the work in Africa, we have taken a few of our magazines and display
boards and slides. But now we have decided to expand this, and
on the 8th / 9th of March this year we took part in a Christian
resources exhibition held at Mutley Baptist Church in Plymouth.
As you can see from the picture, we had a very large display,
including not just magazines but a video show, a display of wood
carvings and lots of information packs. The exhibition was very
well attended over the two days and we were blessed with the amount
of offers of help and advice we received.
ver
the coming year, we are hoping to attend more exhibitions around
the country. Do you know of an event small or large where you
think we might be able to display our roadshow? Or maybe you have
an area in your church or place of work where we could put a small
display up or place one of our collecting tins? If so, or if you’re
interested in becoming a GLAM leader, or you’d just like to make
a donation, contact me, Derek Perry, using the information below.
And thank you for all your help and support so far!
