Catalyst
for
our kids in Tavi
atalyst
(Tavistock) is a local charity which exists to share the Good
News of Christianity by: offering a positive witness of Jesus,
allowing young people to discover how being a Christian can have
a real effect on daily life, and providing opportunities for a
response. Catalyst also exists to support Christian young people
within their school environment where, regardless of belief and
background, they can feel safe, encouraged, cared for and supported.
Guy Airton
(left) was appointed in January this year as a Catalyst Youth
Worker working in Tavistock College to provide a resource in a
variety of ways. His work includes one-to-one support, group work,
PHSE activities, assemblies, class work, lunchtime clubs and support
for staff.
As Trustees,
we have been extremely pleased with the feed back that we have
had both from the school, the young people and the local Churches
about Guy's work. He has settled in really well and shown great
initiative. If your Church has not yet met Guy, and you would
like him to come and introduce himself, please contact him on
07528 293698.
Financial
support comes entirely from local churches and individual Christians
who give regularly. We are extremely grateful for all this support;
however, in order for this important work to continue in the school
and the local community, we do need to see giving increased. Would
you be willing to have a fund-raising event for Catalyst, or are
you having an event where you could run a stall in aid of Catalyst?
We are also looking for at least a 100 people to become partners
with Catalyst to pledge £10 per month. Of course, this is just
a suggested sum, and we would be grateful for any support you
would like to give. If you feel able to give please contact the
Hon. Treasurer, Reverend John Weir, Goblins Green, Dousland, Yelverton
PL20 6ND. (01822 852671).
DATE FOR
YOUR DIARIES - There will be a service to celebrate all the Christian
youth work that takes place in the area. This will be held on
Friday 12th September at St. Eustachius at 7.30pm. If you or your
church have youth workers, we would love you, and them, to come
and be part of this service. For further information about this,
or any aspect of Catalyst's work, please contact Graham Stoate
on 01822 615847.
