Pastor Colin Bond shares about tight finances and God's generosity...

It's only money," my accountant pointed out to me one day when we were worried, 'feeling the pinch'. Bills had built up, creditors were pressing for payment and we were feeling the pressure. As I write this, finances are tightening around the country, prices are rising, the truckers are blocking London's streets (and in Wales!), house prices are dropping rapidly and we are feeling the pinch. A friend only today was telling me their house had not even sold by auction and had dropped £30,000 in value. So where are we going?

My accountant, a righteous, God-fearing man, had a point. We had health, friends, a wonderful family, a job and lots to live for. It was only money we were worried about. Jesus said, "You cannot serve two masters, you cannot serve God and mammon." I think that meant money. The Bible says He can supply all our need according to His riches. There must be some secret for tapping into those supplies. Again Jesus said, "Seek first My Kingdom and My righteousness and all these things shall be added to you."

Now that doesn't sound too strenuous. A couple of years ago I was thinking of building a hotel in Uganda to do safari holidays. The idea was to make some profit to help pay wages for doctors and nurses in hospitals that King's Church had started in Africa. A friend was visiting the prison where a one-time prime minister was 'residing'. He said to him, "My Muzungu ['white man'] friend is looking for land." His reply was, "No way, that prime land on the hilltop is for my pension when I get out of here." Then he shivered and said, "I've become a Christian in here. God is telling me that I must sell some of the land. I'll knock ten million shillings [about £3,000] off the price."

The hotel is now built (see photo below), waiting for you to enjoy a wonderful holiday in Africa's paradise. Now, I feel as bad as the next person, so I can't earn that favour. I recommend we all do some "Seeking first the Kingdom" (Matt.6.33) and see what happens, then tell the rest of us how to tap in to the supplies of the Almighty. Maybe the next issue will be full of exciting reports from newly rich people!
