I
guess we need the humility to recognize our struggle to comprehend
our God and His ways.
An
interesting observation is that God chooses the most affectionate
and exciting of human emotions to describe our desired relationship
with the Lord. Well I remember the day, 48 years ago when
I anticipated my bride arriving at church, all the excited attention
of family with cameras and those new-fangled cine-cameras, all
the long-anticipated plans of how we would set up home, one day
build a nursery and entertain grand-parents etc. Then, WOW! It
was all happening, billowing white dress, bridesmaids, pageboy,
church organ, "Here comes the bride..." Then the serious
bit of the vows!
How
much more excitement in God’s heart when the ‘Bride’ arrives,
all the angels waiting with bated breath, the Bride made perfect
and holy and acceptable...at last! The Bible teaches there will
be a great wedding feast in the heavens, a banqueting table, no
more tears or sadness and so much noise that when there was silence
in heaven for half an hour John the apostle wrote about it in
Revelations.
That
wedding will be the climax of the ages. The Cross was when Jesus
paid the ’bride-price’ for weak and failing
sinners like us and God was satisfied. Those
who discover they are forgiven, accepted and born into the family
of God as His children cannot but find an overwhelming love and
gratitude just like a new bride for her bridegroom.
Will
you be at that wedding feast? Or will you miss it because you
are somewhere else?
