Another Christmas, another year older and some of us have seen too many! Remember 1962 when the snow covered some houses and drifted halfway up the shop windows? Never mind, it's still a joy to watch the kids, full of anticipation, coming into another Christmas.

I've come to the age when I wonder how many more Christmases I'll see. What does lie the other side? Does anyone really know? Today assisted suicide is often in the news, many feel life is no longer worth living and millions die around our world at the hands of violent men. Many I meet in Africa have little to live for as they sit under a tree wondering if there will food tomorrow, if they will survive their malaria or if the fighting across the border will come to them.

The Bible says, "The gift of God is eternal life." God's gifts are always excellent! He promises a new heaven and a new earth and a time of no more tears or sadness. His gifts are free and they get better as we experience them. But there's a problem. Communications have broken down! Selfish ambition, greed and deceit have blocked the way to God. It takes some humility and trust to find it. Jesus said, "Broad is the way that leads to destruction and many are on it, narrow is the way that leads to life and few find it" (Matt.7.13). So how do we find it?

1. We have to turn from the way we are living and start searching. Jesus took all our evil into Himself and at the cross took its power away and offers forgiveness and acceptance. Then He offers His resurrection life to us, life for ever, and with the package so much more. Our guilt complex goes, we find a new Father and a new family and a miracle! A new love and tolerance for others plus a destiny, a hope and purpose to life. So what's it cost? Nothing is free these days. There's always a cost to someone and usually there're strings attached! Originally it cost the life of Jesus to buy this for us. For us it's free but costs us the humility to acknowledge our need and reach out to Jesus to receive.

2. Eternal life is wrapped up in the Person of Jesus. He's the only One Who can live for ever so eternal life means receiving Him into our lives. He has to be invited in. He's not a burglar! We can't make it on our own or God would never have sacrificed His only Son.

3. So is there a hidden cost? Well, yes, you find your gratitude grows into a love that gets stronger so you want to please Him; attitudes to work, money, time and people will change, a new lifestyle comes but you don't feel robbed because it's a whole new experience that's so satisfying. You change, you want the world to change to a happier, better place. God has become real, a Father Whose hand is on your life.

A gift only becomes ours when we take it, unpack it and use it. It's the same with eternal life. We must take it! We must receive Jesus! What a terrible deception to reject it or neglect it, yet most people do. Make this Christmas unforgettable. Receive God's gift of eternal life. Life that goes past death into eternity, the life of Jesus. He'll take you to heaven! We're here to help. Call us. We wish you a very Happy Unforgettable Christmas.
