trange
creatures aren’t we? So gullible! We’ll hang on to resentment
or painful memories at the expense of losing friendships
or family that hurts us much more. How many fathers have longed
for their son to return home or to the family business yet
have been unable to find the way to reconciliation? How many
mothers have carried a broken heart waiting for the child
they bore and nursed and reared to adolescence to write a
letter of acceptance and love?
There’s
something in our human nature that simply gets in the way
of happy loving restored relationships that we all long for.
It’s a right slippery devil that’s intent on exploding family
life, giving us serious heart trouble, destroying the economy
and causing death and destruction. What starts as a little
trickle of unforgiveness can build up to outright war!
I’m
hoping some of the articles in this issue will be a help as
courageous folk tell us how unforgiveness hit their lives
and how they found a solution to it. I say "I’m hoping"
because I’m off tonight to Bristol on my way to the Congo.
With the tremendous help of the King’s and Tavistock citizens
we established a clinic or small hospital at Bukavu, East
Congo three years ago. Since then there has been strife and
fighting as one tribe cannot forgive the other and war has
continued. The hospital was bombed and looted. I am returning
to inspect the restoration of the hospital and plan its re-equipping.
Supplies have been generously donated, now we need the money
(about £7,000) to send the container load!
We
cannot solve all the unforgiveness and its results in the
world but God holds us responsible for our own. Don’t skip
over this issue. It may hold unexpected blessings for you.
God
bless you….abundantly,
Colin
