Pastor Chef ...or should it be Solicitor Chef?! Jeremy Harvey - our resident cordon bleu - says "Vegetables do not need to be dull. Here are some interesting ways to cook vegetables that are very simple. Enjoy!"

Potatoes baked with cream & cheese
2 cloves of crushed garlic
2oz butter
1 ½ lb of thinly sliced potatoes
Salt & pepper
Freshly grated nutmeg
4oz Gruyère or Cheddar cheese, grated
450 ml single cream (or milk, or evaporated milk)
1 medium onion, chopped

1. Rub a large ovenproof dish with one clove of garlic. Spread half the butter over the inside of the dish.
2. Layer the potatoes, onions, salt & pepper, nutmeg, the remaining garlic and 2/3 of the cheese in the dish.
3. Bring the cream (or milk) to the boil and pour over the potato slices. Sprinkle over the remaining cheese and dot with butter. Cover loosely with a piece of lightly oiled foil.
4. Bake in a pre-heated oven (gas mark 4 or 180°C) for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for a further 20 minutes until the inside is creamy and the top crisp.
(Editor’s note: And when you’ve eaten it, book an aerobics session at the King’s to work it all off again!)

Leeks with bacon
1. Slice leeks lengthwise and clean. Slice into ½ inch lengths including some of the green parts.
2. Fry chopped bacon (smoked or unsmoked) until crisp.
3. Fry the leeks in butter or olive oil until soft. Add the bacon and serve.

Swede with apple
1. Dice swede. Boil until soft and then mash.
2. Slice cooking apples and cook in a small amount of water.
3. Mix the two together and season with salt and pepper.

Courgettes with onions and basil
1. Slice courgettes and chop onions roughly. Fry in olive oil.
2. Add salt and pepper to season.
3. Add chopped basil (preferably fresh).

Smiley pic Love Thy Neighbour (ii)
(Church notice gaffes continued)
The church will host an evening of fine dining, superb entertainment, and gracious hostility.
Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say "hell" to someone who doesn’t care much about you.
The outreach committee has enlisted 25 visitors to make calls on people who are not afflicted with any church.

Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on Oct. 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in school days.
