Power of Healing
God's power isn't limited by medical opinion, says Chris Wright

ome people say that Jesus doesn’t heal. Maybe they had once prayed for healing and it didn’t happen for them. I can say that although praying for healing hasn’t always been successful, nevertheless Jesus can heal and does heal. I can’t explain why sometimes He does and sometimes He doesn’t; I don’t know and don’t want to guess.

A few years ago I had a bad back and sciatica - one of the discs in my back was misshapen and this was trapping a nerve, giving pain down my left leg and my lower back. After some weeks, I went along to the Mustard Seed Mission in Callington and there a man asked Jesus to heal me. I didn’t feel better at once but I felt a warm sensation in my back and I believed that Jesus had touched me. Over the space of the next three days or so the pain left me. Since then, although I have had a few twinges from my back, I have never had the sciatica again.

Further to this I know of a little girl who to my certain knowledge has been healed of life-threatening illnesses twice in her short life. When this girl was a toddler, she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition which meant she had a large head. The hospital consultants told her parents that the only solution was to have a shunt put in, which was basically a sort of built-in tap, which she would have for the rest of her (short) life.

As a church, some of us went to the family home to pray with them for the situation. While we were asking God how He wanted us to pray, we felt that He said this girl did not need the shunt, He would heal her Himself. She would still have a large head, but then she would grow up to be a large lady, and so all would be in proportion. She didn’t have the operation and she recovered and was OK.

About 18 months later, the same girl was diagnosed with a tumour in her groin. Naturally, we were very concerned, but then we remembered that God had said that she would grow to be a large lady. Well, if she was going to grow up, then she wasn't going to die from this tumour. She couldn't do both! This encouraged us to pray and believe that she would be healed and, praise God, she was. The doctors gave her therapy which they said would damage the bottom part of her spine, but she later had an x-ray, and everything was perfect. There was no sign of the damage that the doctors expected.

Several people who live in and around Tavistock know about these things and can vouch for what I say. The Bible says that if we pray in Jesus’ name, He hears and answers our prayers. If we ask Him first what He wants to do in a given situation, and hear what He says and pray in agreement, we will see God exerting His power.

If you want us to pray for you for healing, we meet every Sunday at the King's at 11.00, or we also have home meetings during the week. Phone 01822 612100 for details on where and when these take place.

Chris
